FDDI (fiber distributed data interface)
An ANSI standard to ensure compatibility of components from different manufacturers.
Ferrule
A precision tube, which houses a fiber. It aligns the fiber for interconnection or termination. A ferrule may be part of a connector or mechanical splice.
Fiber optics
Light transmission through flexible transmissive fiber for communications or lighting.
Fiber ribbon
Parallel fibers encased by one coating.

Fusion splicer
